Starting a new thread for draft chatter. I'm sure there will be questions and rules needing explanation, etc.
Is there a new rule that the only free agents available are those signed before the start of our draft? Didn't Brunner sign during our 2012 draft, giving the next picking teams an unfair advantage to get a player who wasn't available for the previous teams?
I'm sure we discussed this but I forget the outcome and I don't see it in the current rules.

Yes, There are some things that need to be reviewed.
- It is extremely important that your fellow GMs be PMed/e-mailed once you have made your selection and they are on the clock and a short list be forwarded to an admin should the selecting GM not be available for their pick.
- Players who are not on a current DTDL roster and have played no more than 39 career NHL games may be selected. These include the college/CHL players who may have cleared the initial week from their NHL signing this past spring or anyone who may have signed their initial NHL contract after the regular season ended and the roster freeze went into effect.
- Any undrafted player who signs their initial NHL contact after we start drafting (ie Brunner last season) is ineligible to be drafted in our DTDL draft.
- Time slots are already posted, however if the GM selecting the pick ahead of you has already picked, you are NOT required to wait for your time slot to make your selection.
- If your time slot comes up and the GM ahead of you missed his time, you may go ahead and make your selection.
- If you missed your time slot, you may post your selection anytime before the designated time that assigned picks timetable for that round. Failure to do so will result in a pick being made for you based on the highest NHL drafted player still available on the draft-board.
- Thus far, Washington has not been filled. Therefore, they will automatically be awarded the Highest NHL 2013 Entry Draftee Available. - There will be a master list of players selected and also one of players who were just picked in Sunday's NHL draft. Please cross check those lists as well as the recent picks made to reduce required re-picks.
- Try to keep the draft moving and enjoy the draft.
Note: Items in bold and red are a recent change.

- Thus far, Washington has not been filled. Therefore, they will automatically be considered a miss pick and may be skipped I haven't really given this much thought but I'm wondering why we would skip the WAS pick? It strikes me that we should be trying to make an unfilled team look as attractive as possible to potential GMs. It seems counter-productive to arbitrarily penalize the team 15 or so draft spots... In the first round especially. Had any thought been given to just assigning the highest drafted player to WAS on its turn?

I think we should penalize owners who don't show up by not autodrafting for them immediately. But for teams without owners, we should help make them competitive so we can fill that opening and that owner has more assets to work with

I'm certainly willing to go with it. In the meantime, I'm still trying to fill Washington. Bumped the vacancy on Dobber forums this morning.

I agree that teams without owners shouldn't be penalized. However, do we have an accurate picture of who's in and who's out? Maybe we should have a roll call just to confirm.
For example, invasion (Colorado) last login date was Feb 19, rah72 (Anaheim) was Apr 25...

After that, just follow the rules of missed picks that the draft already has in place, imo.

I think because we are a 30 team league we should pretty much autoselect next available player regardless...there can be a difference between 2nd round and 6th round and it would be a shame to have to come in and select 5 picks on a new tem selecting from leftovers in the 6th and 7th round...I think Rich as the commish should just take whoever is the highest left player at the time Washingtons pick comes up. Sometimes it might be a dman who is only good at blocks but every team needs that in a deep league like ours even with 15 scoring categories. If it happens that Washington ends up with 6 new goalie prospects than oh well...better to do autoselect and have half a chance at quality depth than having to hand pick leftovers of the prospects that none of us other 29 GM's didn't want at all.

Thanks for considering my point in the feedback. I think the new GM should be happy to have something of quality to work with.

I think the new GM should be happy to have something of quality to work with. it might be nice to find a player at your draft position that might not have been there if the GM before you picked, but you can't find new GM's to take over teams if the team is a complete wash-out. Keeping empty teams attractive helps us bring new blood in and avoid the prospect of having to contract.

I agree with the above that we should automatically assign the highest available player from the draft to any open franchise. We want to be able to at least attract owners to a viable team. Rich can just automatically do the selection.

If you can't get excited for the draft then we're better off with a new GM. This might be a bit annoying for some but can we start a new rollcall thread where everyone includes their contact info. This new thread could serve as the contact list for the league and we could update the members tab at the top of the screen. Cheers and happy drafting!!!

I agree, but only to an extent. I know guys in a few leagues whose main motivation to join was to be a part of the league. They have taken on less-than-attractive franchises to join up.
I agree that maybe we look after Washington for the 1st rd but after that, no.
Just my two-cents worth...
