Can we also have another vote on magicstew's suggestion to decrease the number of games a player is eligible for the farm?
As a bottom-feeder trying to legitimitely rebuild, the biggest challenge I have is that there are not enough FA players to pick up and field a legal roster... A quick search in fantrax shows only three players that have played at least 1 NHL game, and no guarantee that they will get any more.
If there is a limit to how long a prospect can be kept on the farm: - top teams have to choose between keeping a potential stud who is 2-3 years away or a proven 50-point veteran - bottom teams can snatch up the castaways
This way, GM's can decide to be more like the NYI or Oilers and keep a roster full of kids, Det who likes to ride veterans until they retire, or SJ or Bos who seem to always like having a mix.
I've read all the posts on farm size, and I agree with the arguments from both camps. Part of the fun in fantasy hockey is having a big enough farm to find a hidden gem. Another part of the fun is dealing with constraints: you can't have Crosby and Ovie and Malkin and the twins, and so on, all on the same team. Hard choices have to be made.
Final point I want to make is that I do like how passionate the GM's are in this league, because it sure beats the alternative...

I voted to increase to 30 for next year, as I think it is a good # to settle at. After next years draft teams will have to start releasing prospects to add more. Except for the top players that are drafted it takes 3-5 years for a prospect to hit the NHL, and especially with our league where we use so many different scoring variables. thats why we should go to 30 prospects. Teams need to be diversified in all categories to win this league so we should have a deep farm team. Teams with extra or higher picks will benefit and it does give hope for teams to rebuild.
"Final point I want to make is that I do like how passionate the GM's are in this league, because it sure beats the alternative..." I agree with Pinerider about our passionate GM's - thats great. We need to iron out a few kinks and we will be well on our way to a strong league.
Voting on decreasing the # of games can be done and we can look at implementing for next year.

Voted to keep it at 25. Smaller roster forces GMs to make more decisions, which is always a good thing.

Guess what I voted Where was no option to contract the minors 5 round draft is committed through the next two drafts. Therefore we will not have contaction of farm as an option until we at least get through those two drafts.

Get with it boys, pretty simple vote here. You even have a choice for 'don't give a f#$k' so for the love of God register a vote before I go Christian Bale up in ;D

Voted (last week in fact) to keep it to 25.
Question: can the limit only be enforced before the start of each season?
If I already have 25, could I trade for and keep new prospects during the season and not have to drop anyone else immediately?

Well gents, thanks for coming out to vote I guess this issue can be knocked in the head.
Comish- can we call out the three people who still haven't voted and at least find out if they even exist anymore?

Well gents, thanks for coming out to vote I guess this issue can be knocked in the head. Comish- can we call out the three people who still haven't voted and at least find out if they even exist anymore? 25 will remain our farm size for next season. Teams may go over the 25 limit with their selections from the entry draft, but MUST get back within the 25 farm limit before the start of the season. With consideration of these results, I intend to reduce the entry draft to 3 rounds starting with the 2014 draft. BTW, Non-voters NYI Parrish - last login Pro-boards = Sep 2nd last login Fantrax = October 31st TOR Staden - last login Pro-boards = OCT 17th last login Fantrax = NOV 1st CBJ Banger - last login Pro-boards = OCT 23rd last login Fantrax = OCT 23rd Nothing I would consider in-active, Only one that bothers me slightly is Parrish. He's actually in all three of my Dynasty leagues and he only regularly posts on one of them. Of course, that's the one where he has the most competitive team.
