- Poll will close at 11:59 PM on 27 Feb 13
- These are the only two options available. First come basis as is currently in place or waivers during the regular season. Any CHL/College Free Agent not picked up by that time may then be selected at the DTDL Entry Draft along those already eligible (Section K, sub-paragraph 4 of the league rules).
Specfically:
4. Only players drafted in the NHL draft of that season or signed by an NHL team as a free agent after completion of the regular season are eligible to be drafted in our entry draft. In addition, only players who have played 39 NHL games or less are eligible.

In addition, only players who have played 39 NHL games or less are eligible. This language was questioned at the draft last summer and I think that the general consensus was that it sucked. Leaving aside the question of waivers versus FCFS (which will be settled by this poll), the wording of this rules makes players that have been drafted or signed in a previous year, but played fewer than 40 games, ineligible for our draft. I do not see the rationale for this. We also need to clarify that the pool of eligible players freezes as soon as the draft starts. For example, Brunner signed after our last draft had started, and then he was signed in the second round. A player that was not eligible to be drafted in round 1 should not all of a sudden become eligible in round 2.

I want to thank you for bringing it up because it was never formally placed into the rules. The Brunner rule (I like that one) was previously discussed during last season's draft and it was agreed that anyone signed after the draft has started would not be eligible for the draft and would need to be signed by free agency. Secondly, I think you might be mis-reading the rule. Although it's actually poorly written. That's what I get for copy and pasting poorly worded rules. But for the sake of clarity, it's probably best to edit the rule to simply say: Players need to have been drafted or signed an NHL contract at some point in their career and have played no more than 39 NHL career NHL games.

Thanks for putting this to a poll. I think it's a fairly important rule change.

Thanks Rich, the proposed language reflects what I thought the rules were all along!

I also really like that you're planning ahead, and we're not waiting until a couple of days before draft day. Thumbs up!

good to get this decided one way or the other, so everyone will know. Great job planning ahead.

Only 11 votes with less than two days left Agreed...very disturbing. This our league guys! I'm not one to push to have everyone pulling off weekly trades or any such nonsense but there was a league wide e-mail sent out to give people a heads up on this vote. If this is the sort of thing that you're not interested in then maybe this isn't the league for you.

This all begs the question, how many GMs do we actually have in this league right now?

this topic has been discussed numerous time over the past couple seasons-perhaps a good number of gm's don't care too much one way or the other-
