If you have recently been on Pro-Boards and paying attention, you should already be aware that DTDL free agency will re-open at 11 AM on Saturday August 18th. All signing are done on a first come basis and must occur on the Pro-Board site to be recognized as valid. Players must have been drafted in an NHL Entry draft previously or signed an NHL level contract (AHL, try-out or one day contracts are not adequate). You are entitled to sign up to one (1) free agent per day with a maximum of two (2) signings per week and eight (8) signings per month. The week will start at midnight on Sunday and end at midnight on Saturday.
In addition, you are allowed to be over on farm size during the off season. (Just don’t be surprised if you have a difficult time executing trades on Fantrax.) You must have you roster set by midnight on October 7th (Sunday prior to start of season). Please remember, you must be below the salary cap, above the salary floor and meet farm requirements, Meaning that prospects may not have played more than 110 career NHL games / 55 career NHL games for goaltenders.
Although it is not likely that selecting a time and date will always good for everyone when opening free agency, the intention is to have consistency in the league rules whenever possible. That is why free agency will be opened annually on the third Saturday of August.
