So, we're all pretty familiar with the LTIR army and their relative usefulness vis a vis the cap. (Horton, Pronger, Savard, et al) but for players like Voynov, Richards, Kassian, Torres who aren't getting paid by their teams the team are still on the hook for the cap hits are they not. Pretty sure that for Torres and Kassian that is the case as both teams I believe are stuck with a dead roster spot as well. I stopped following the Voynov, Richards soap operas long ago as things dragged on but I'm curious what the status is for some of these guys.

I believe Voynov sat on PHI's reserves all of last season. Wasn't eligible for IR or minors despite his suspension.
Pronger was IR eligible when he played, which does not count against the cap in our league even if it did against the Flyers real cap.
As far as I know, whatever you can do with them on Fantrax - those are your options.

I'm not necessarily considering anything, I already have the Horton anchor, I was just wondering if Mike Richards contract still technically exists. I know he's not being paid but in one place he's listed as LA still being on the hook for his cap hit, another place not, Same with Kassian, suspended without pay but his team the Habs have to deal with his cap hit. More curious than anything as if someone picks Richards up I'm sure the questions would start coming in as to whether his cap hit exists. Just passing the time waiting for teams to settle their hash so i can get on with the business of figuring out the hot mess that is the Montreal canadiens right now.

it was actually regarding Josh Harding. Rich determined that as the Wild suspended him for an off-ice injury he was eligible for the IR. The conversation occurred in private message so I hope he doesn't mind me quoting him in public. Suspended because of INJURY, granted it's self inflicted. Under the new CBA they simply suspend him, so that he doesn't get paid. Under the old CBA he would have been placed on IR. Whether he gets paid or not is irreverent for our league. Key factor is that he is out based on an injury and Minnesota took an action that allowed them to call up another player. It just happened to be an injury related suspension. Last season, Philadelphia used the Voynov caphit all season and kept him on their bench. In the past, players who were suspended were given eligibility to the minors and I think that is appropriate. it is the GMs prerogative to put a non-roster player on minors or IR (if injured) and it is also their call if they want to keep him on the bench.

Yeah I'm not worried about it but myself i don't really like the idea of using Nathan Horton to stay above water but have no issues with the use of such players. Just inquiring with regards to the possible ramifications of dropping one LTIR say for another player in a similar type situation only to have it be rules that the acquired player has no salary and one is suddenly under the cap and scrambling to rectify things. All the while being shunned and laughed at by fellow GM's. Can you tell i just want the games to start already.

Voynov was not minors eligible and I was told I could not send him down because he was suspended for a non hockey related incident. That is why he stayed on my roster. My choice was to cut him or have him stay on the main roster. The same would apply to Kassian.

The rules do state i believe that suspended players unless they are minors eligible cannot be sent down, so Voynov would have had to stay either in the lineup active or bench or GTFO. Kassian I guess is in rehab so he I guess would be able to be sent down but he's also suspended by the team anyways so who knows. And Torres is suspended for being a douche. Funny that Kassian was immediately suspended but O'reilly after trying to run over a Tim Horton's has had nothing happen yet really. And richards with no pay but by most accounts still sticking it to LA with the cap hit. Poor LA(not really, who gives a shite) but Voynov,Richards and they had Stoll. They're the NHL equivalent of what the bengals used to be in the NFL>
