I've been doing line changes for Anaheim for the past month. I've been doing line changes for 2 other teams the past couple weeks, though the GM's are active again. I decided to do another check and we have more inactive GMs on fantrax.
CBJ - Dec 5, 2013 LAK - Dec 4, 2013 MIN - Dec 11, 2013 MTL - Dec 7, 2013 NYR - Dec 2, 2013 TML - Dec 10, 2013
I just went back to Saturday, as it was a busy NHL day and for all 6 teams I would suggest the lines were not optimal. It is impossible to have a competitive H2H league with daily line changes if GMs aren't going to put in the effort.
Anyone have any thoughts on options, I know it is a holiday season but this league is only going to be great if we can manage to put in at least 5 minutes per day if even just to make sure the line changes are done for our teams.
as per league rules, technically this is tanking.

I try and do a few days at a time because with a wife and kids and karate and minor hockey and kids curling and homework with kids and a job I only have a little bit of time to spare but I still try and look ahead bus couple of days just in case I forget. Not sure if all of our GMs face these daily life hurdles but a team can be managed in just a few minutes. Just sayin'!!!

well it takes about 15 seconds per day to set the lineup, don´t know everybody´s personal situation, but that should be possible

I'm actually impressed that everyone has logged in this month......how's that for setting the bar low?!?
I completely understand the frustration but the fact of the matter is that getting 30GM's to go full tilt every day of the season is next to impossible. This doesn't mean we shouldn't strive for perfection just that we shouldn't be too alarmed when teams disappear from time to time. Hell, I've got a competitive squad and there have been a number of nights I forgot to set my lineup. Life just takes over sometimes.

strive for excellence, not profection.
Let's face it, this is a game based on a game. we all have lives, a job (jobs?), wives, kids, hamsters, etc.
If it is habitual, then yes, they need to be sent packing, having one night of a imperfect roster in a daily start league is a bit...much.

I'm not even intending to point fingers either, the teams listed above are certainly not the only offenders we have had this season and perfection is unrealistic. I suppose the question I have, and others can certainly find a better one, but is there anything we can do to alleviate the problem? Is expecting 30 GM's to do line changes in a free league at least once per day or to even attempt to set up their teams lines for a week ahead of time, too much to ask?

I don't think it's too much to ask at all but I also feel that there will always be situations that arise that keep people from having their best possible lineup set every day.
For those who start their day at work in front of a computer it probably seems so simple but not all of us fall into that category and it's not always that easy. Setting a lineup a week in advance is fine but it won't always give you the best bang for your buck. Injuries can derail those efforts and predicting goalie starts is really a day by day challenge.
To be completely honest I'd love it if this league went to weekly lineup changes but that's not the way it was designed so I'm not going to push for it.

I try and log in and do 3 or 4 days ahead especially when I know I am going to be busy or on the road. This way you can log in and quickly make changes if needed. It is hard to keep up on goalie starts some times, but that is the nature of the beast. I have missed some good starts but also some bummer starts for some of my goalies, so it probably evens out.

okay, now you bitches have one less excuse. I don't have a smart phone but I'd be interested in knowing if this app is any good.
missing the odd line change isn't really why I created this thread. Those above 6 teams, I've been making daily line changes for.
Before moving to a weekly line changes league, which if we are going to do that it would be best to set that to start a year or two into the future...mostly because it is going to change the value of players A LOT.
but before that I'd say we might consider contraction first. I'd rather keep a daily line changes league and cut out the dead weight than change to a weekly line changes league. The Daily line changes is half of the reason I joined this league.
The other half was the H2H aspect.

Both of these changes would dramatically alter the league and player/prospect valuations. Have we tried a more simple route yet-posting in forums and trying to get some new GM's?

The weekly changes would mostly only affect goalie values from what I can tell but it would be a HUGE valuation swing on them. The depth guys would completely lose their value but it's not as if people have invested much in them anyway, I've gotten most of mine for free through the years As I mentioned earlier, I'm not pushing for the change but if there was a lot of support for it I'd like to see it. p.s. We could quite easily solve the issue of goalie valuations by allowing for a 'flex' position that any player can slot into. For those who have invested heavily in goalies they would then continue to reap the rewards and for those who don't have two (or in some cases one) they could start an extra skater.

The app doesn't help people that use a Windows phone, but I have been trying to field the best line possible as I just keep Fantrax open on my desktop now.

Hey all. Just checking in. I am still alive. going through some crazy life stuff right now. going through a divorce, new job, and more. Trying to check in once in a while but every key player on my team has been injured, my IR has been full pretty much all season and I have no NHL ready subs on my farm to help. When Quick went down that pretty much was the last nail in the coffin. I tried to leave my best line up active. It wont make any difference constantly rotating my 4th liners around. I am going to try to sell off some assets to some contenders and to some re build and maintenance as time allows. Cheers and good luck to all in the hunt. Some fire sales are about to begin.

If this were a purely stats league, that would make sense but being that this is a H2H league, every line change you make is important as it directly effects the team you are playing against and the over-all standings. Life comes first, I hope things improve for you.
