With Ryan Kesler coming off of IR, Anaheim needs to make a move to get under the salary cap. Both teams are GM-less.
To MIN Brian Elliott Melker Karlsson CAR 3rd 2018
To ANA Ondrej Kase Casey Fitzgerald

why trade away a starting goalie to get under the cap, when there are less valuable and just as(if not more) expensive players on Anaheim? brian boyle - has the same cap hit as elliot - $2,750,000 kulikov makes 4,333,333 orpik - 5,500,000 (has elite hits)
could just swap luke schenn for orpik with melker for a fringe pick/player or just kulikov for demelo

Yeah, I hate second-guessing admins' work but my reaction wasn't positive when I saw a starting/tandem goalie on the move so cheaply. I would've jumped all over that deal prior to shelling out way more to land Lundqvist. The goalie market in this pool is typically a seller's market...

Forward position requirements make trading forwards complicated. Elliot's stats since leaving St. Louis have become very pedestrian, I can see him fading into a back-up very shortly. I sent you a message weeks ago about discussing trade options for when Kesler returned and got nothing in return so I made the deal I did.

I would have to give it a closer look and it is definitely difficult to make a trade for two teams sans GMS. My feeling though is you make the absolute lowest impact trade possible affecting both teams and I'm not sure that including a goalie as has been mentioned is the way to go considering the dearth of what is available.
There have been trades between teams with actual GM's involving goalies and some not that I'd have to say were a little odd in my opinion so I would avoid trading from that position at all costs since when trying to fill the GM spot for any open team I guarantee that one of the first things the prospective GM will look at is the goaltending, after counting how many players on his potential team are still to young to drink or play with their wieners.

Is it possible in Fantrax for an admin to override the settings and force a player to IR. Place Chris Krieder on IR since that is where he will wind up and his "injury" came up basically the same time Kesler returned from IR. If anything else needs done beside that then a couple of lesser lights can be swapped.

my numbers could be wrong but the above trade appears to have cleared about $4,100,000 in cap for anaheim with $800,000 in cap space left after.
with goalie being the scarcest position in our league, elliot having a .914 sv %, starting approximately 75% of Philadelphia's starts and minnesota already having dubnyk and stalock I would propose the following alternatives
with anaheim needing to clear cap and minnesota not far from the floor(prior to the elliot trade)----
anaheim trades: d dmitri kulikov (4,333,333)
minnesota trades: d dylan demelo 650,000
clears about $3.7mil
if additional cap space is needed
anaheim could send (c,lw,rw,f) melker karlsson($2.0mil) or (c.lw,f)jordan martinook($1.8mil)
for
(c,lw,rw,f)markus granlund($900,000).
that would clear an additional ~$1 million
total savings of ~$4.7million
minnesota adds some salary, anaheim cuts some, neither loses nhl starts at any position, forward positional flexibility is retained, and none of the players involved appear to have any significant statistical value.

Just a thought... Why do we need teams without managers in the first place ?
My thinking is if we dispose of the teams who are without managers at the start of the year. Dispense their players through dispersal draft.
This all teams would have active managers, all players would be available for trade to all teams, teams would be more competitive and no manager would have to manage for than one team.
If new owners then want to join our league, we could go through the expansion process.
The way it is now, we could have a 30 team league with say 20 owners for many years. That does not make sense to me.

i believe the elliot trade should be reversed as there are other ways(listed in my previous post) to clear the same cap without moving a #1 goalie

so go for it. I made the deal, under a tight time frame, that made the most sense to me simulating as best I could, the team needing to make the deal overpaying slightly to make the deal.
Since this deal on Dec 27 occurred:
Minnesota 1. Brian Elliott (32) - 7GP 4W 3.98GAA .861% in the NHL
Stats accumulated for Minnesota:
Period 13 (Dec 25-31) 5-7-3 Dec 28 - FLA 3/PHI 2 - 0W .889% 3GA 2PIM Goalie sts for the entire week - 1W 2.38 .914 - Elliott hurt more than he helped
Period 14 (Jan 1-7) 6-6-3 Jan 4 - PHI 6/NYI 4 - 1W .871% 4GA Jan 6 - STL 3/PHI 6 - 1W .903% 3GA Goalie sts for the entire week - 3W 2.68GAA .909% - Elliott added 2 wins but hurt both GAA and SV% and both games he started in could have been covered by other active G on the team.
Period 15 (Jan 8-14) 6-6-3 Jan 13 - PHI 5/NJD 3 - 1W .897% 3GA Goalie sts for the entire week - 2W 2.30GAA .925% - Again, Elliott got a win but hurt both GAA and SV%. The 1 game he played his week he was the only option.
Period 15 (Jan 15-21) 4-8-3 - week not concluded Jan 16 - NYR 5/PHI 1 - 0W .762% 5GA - At this point, Elliott has given away starter status to Michael Neuvirth
Melker Karlsson (27) - 11GP 1G-0A-1Pts -4 6pim 10sog 11hit/10blk 66.7% (4w-2l)
2018 3rd - Carolina
Anaheim
Ondrej Kase (22) - 6GP 3G-3A-6Pts +2 2pim 1PPP 3hit/3blk 50% (1w-1l)
Casey Fitzgerald (20) - Boston College
I honestly don't see where Minnesota is running way like bandits and in particular, having more than 2 starting goaltender is often equal to or less value-able (when you take into account the salary of most starting goaltenders) than having 3 back up goaltenders.
If you want to reverse the deal, go back and do all of the line changes necessary from December 28th forward - feel free. I'd rather have Anaheims return right now, to be honest.

I'd support reversal of this deal. He's top 15 in games and wins. A new GM would probably prefer having him as a trade piece

No discussion on the stats I've offered for the trade, I've spent all year doing line changes for Edmonton, Minnesota and Anaheim but that stops now. I have more important ways to spend my time.
