P.S. I understand and appreciate the work administrators do. However, team owners who are involved and try to improve their teams are very valuable to the health of a league. Claiming a free agent listed by Fantrax to help my team, then going through this nonsense and likely not being to add him when it is over does not encourage participation. If as you say you will gladly hold the door open for me to leave then Politely close it while I do so. Frankly, I have other leagues I am in and do not need this one.

Rich,
The rule was put in place precisely to help teams like you who are trying to rebuild and improve. The rule used to be much simpler: any player who was not owned was a FA. All that did was reward whomever was most active online and engaged in the pool, which tended to be the stronger teams.
Applying the waiver concept to players who sign their first contracts ensures that everyone has a week to think about whether they want to make a claim, with the lowest seeded team having the opportunity to improve. It ensures that rebuilding teams have the priority, not whomever happens to be online when a new contract is announced.
I agree that it's a bit convoluted but it doesn't really come up all that often. Most additions are guys who have previously been drafted and/or under contract and are therefore FA. Also, we simplified the rule this year so that if nobody makes a claim on a "new contract" within the first week then they become FA.
It's not perfect but no set of rules is, and it's been tough to find ways to support the rebuilding teams in closing the gap with the top teams.

I appreciate the thinking behind the rule. I just think it makes things a lot more complicated then the help it provides to weaker teams.
If you really want to help weaker teams reduced the roster size.

Like NHL waivers, waivers here is in fact set up to help the teams who are lower in the standings and in theory weaker in talent. A player on waivers in the NHL can be claimed by many but will go to the team with the lowest waiver priority.
The only difference with a spencer foo is when he signed his contract. Still likely to go to a lower ranked team only needs to be posts in a separate thread. If it was first come first serve then any GM who was online when the signing occurred or is the quickest on the draw might get him and it might be the defending champions.
Right now based on last season's standings I'm not really anticipating making waiver claims for awhile as I won't get the player unless it is someone virtually no one else wants, and then what might that say about my evaluating talent.
Again I don't think roster size is overly egregious, we have the equivalent of an NHL team and a minor league team-real NHL teams control 90 plus players in essence.
There are players available and in this league with the stat cats that we have, every active player has the potential to make a difference. I've said it before but teams activity or lack of same often times contribute to roster shortcomings. Real life comes first of course but the entire process of signing a FA say takes all of 2 minutes.

Two minutes unless Fantrax has him as a free agent and our league does not. Just seems like a lot of trouble to get a player like Spencer Foo lol

Just seems like a lot of trouble to get a player like Spencer Foo lol without the rule, Foo wouldn't have been available to you at all. dallas signed him in July. this rule gives your team a shot to "claim a player like Spencer Foo"

Gee if we went by Fantrax he would already be on my team. Enough of this though. Let's get back to the game.
