Flames select G Carter Hutton. Is he draft eligible? He had nhl contracts in 2010 and 2011. I thought the only draft eligible FA's were ones signed this summer IRL for the very first time and never drafted before (Cervenka, Svedberg, Fasth). Could be wrong though.

If that rule got changed I cannot remember it being discussed. I can't think of a principled reason why we should exclude any prospects provided they meet the definition of a prospect, i.e. property of an NHL team and have played less than x number of games (whatever that is now, since that for sure did get changed). And I definitely cannot think of a reason why we should exclude a prospect simply because he's not on his first contract...

For the record, Chris, I'm not taking issue with you for pointing this out. Just want to make that clear. Nor am I taking issue with whomever wrote the rules, or with anyone personally for that matter. I am, however, a firm believer in scrutinizing ideas to the fullest extent possible.
Example #1 why rules should not be changed on a whim, here is what I found in the rules for the draft:
"4. One of below: TBD
- Only players drafted in the NHL draft of that season is eligible to be drafted in the DTDL entry draft.
- Only players drafted in the NHL draft of that season or signed by an NHL team as a free agent after completion of the regular season are eligible to be drafted in our entry draft. In addition, only players who have played 39 NHL games or less are eligible."
So we don't even have a firm set of rules governing who can and cannot be drafted?!
In any event, number one is obviously not what we're using since free agents have been drafted.
Number two does not specify that a prospect must be signed to their first contract, only that they must have been signed after the completion of the regular season and must have played 39 NHL games or less, which is true for Hutton.
As for the greater good of the league, neither of these "TBD" rules makes sense to me, though I am always open to being convinced to change my mind.

I think you're right. Just a matter of me reading the rules differently. When I read "or signed by an NHL team as a free agent after completion of the regular season" - I read it as "players who were unable to be signed as a FA during our regular season, then signed during our offseason, so if you want first dibs at these 'new players' before free agency in August, draft them."
Hutton was eligible to be signed as an FA during all of last season, so I assumed he wasn't eligible for the draft. But according to how the rule is written and someone else pointing it out in a different light, it does check out. Maybe I'll trade for him lol.
Carry on, draft

I know I said I forfeited my pick a couple hours ago, is it possible that I can still make my pick?
